BCB urges to shun betting in BPL

BPL governing council expressed their deep concerns over betting in BPL, stating that they have nothing to do more than getting out the bunters from the stadiums.

On behalf of the BPL governing council, BCB director and BPL member secretary IH Mallick urged people to shun this harmful practice after the Rajshahi Kings and Sylhet Sixers at the BCB Media Block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium yesterday.  

Citing their helplessness, they said that though the betting is illegal in the country, there is no concrete law in this regard. Even there is no the specific purview of the betting in the country. It being happened in various level and in different ways. BPL and BCB has their limitations. They could stop it in the stadium only.

So, they urged people to shun this bad practice, which is harmful not only for his own but also for his family, even in social life. So, they called upon the people through media so that the message could reach to the grassroots and aware the people about its negative impact on personal, family and social life.

They make their comments that it is not possible to stop without awareness.

It is learnt from the council that a total of 77 punters including 10 Indian and two Pakistani residents along with 65 local punters has been caught red-handed by the law-enforcing agencies and BCB Anti-Corruption unit.

Mallick was accompanied with BPL governing council chairman Afjalur Rahman Sinha, its member Jalal Younus and Akram Khan on the occasion.

Mallick also said that they have planned to organise a T20 tournament before the BPL to increase the standard of the local players’ performance.

With the participation of the 50-60 selected local players, splitting into five teams, the council will arrange the week-long tournament on the basis of the availability of the national players.
