Missing college student found dead in Pabna
Pabna: Police recovered the body of a college student from his friend’s house at Ulat village in Sujanagar upazila yesterday morning two months after he had gone missing, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Robiul Islam, 23, son of Abdul Malek of the village and a second year BBA student of a local college. Family Sources said that Robiul remained missing since September 20 and some unidentified miscreants demanded Tk 50 lakh for his release on phone.
His family failed to give the money and his father filed a general diary. Later, police arrested Robiul’s friend Mamun, son of Rajjak Sheikh.
Mamun confessed to police that he had killed Robiul and buried the body in his house.
Following his confession, police recovered the body around 10:15am, said Obaidul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sujanagar Police Station.
7 admission seekers jailed for adopting unfair means
Gopalganj: A mobile court here yesterday sentenced seven admission seekers to 20-day jail each for adopting unfair means in the admission test of ‘A’ unit of Banghabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University ( BSMRSTU), reports UNB.
They are Tanvir from Barisal, Palash Matbbur from Madaripur, Joy Emamul and Saurav from Jessore, Iqbal from Mymensingh, Md Kawser from Dhaka and Utsho from Kurigram district.
The university authorities caught them red handed from different exam halls for using electronic device during the exam, said Md Mahbubul Alam, public relations officer of the university. Later, they were produced before the mobile court led by executive magistrate Md Abdullah Al Mamun which awarded them the jail term.
Collision kills microbus driver
Bogra: A microbus driver was killed and six other people were injured in a collision between a bus and a microbus in Fuldighi area of the district town yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Bhetu Miah, son of late Hossain Ali of Helenchapara area in Shahjahanpur upazila.
Police said the accident took place in the area around 10am when the bus collided with the microbus, leaving Bhetu dead on the spot and six passengers injured.
The injured were admitted at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
4th death anniversary of
Zarina Sikder observed
A two-day long free medical camp, special prayer and feast were arranged on the occasion of the death anniversary of Zarina Sikder, mother of Zainul Haque Sikder, a valiant freedom fighter and chairman of National Bank Limited, says a press release.
The free medical campaign was held at Monowara Sikder Medical College Hospital at Bhederganj in Shariatpur that was jointly conducted by Monowara Sikder Medical College and Z H Sikder Women’s Medical College of Dhanmondi.
Three specialist Indian doctors--Cardio Thorasic & Vascular Surgeon Dr Lokesh B M, Neuro Surgeon Dr Hariprakash Chakravarthy, Medicine Specialist Dr Mohan Kumar and four Bangladeshi specialist doctors--Cardiologist Dr Masud Sinha, Dr Shamimul Haq, Neurologist Dr Parvez, Dr Kamruzzaman and the doctors of Gynae and Obs, Surgery & Dental Department of Monowara Sikder Medical College Hospital rendered free medical consultancy to more than 800 patients.
A special prayer was offered and a feast was held yesterday at Zainul Haque Sikder University of Science & Technology field to mark the day. More than six thousand people attended the prayer and the feast. The chairman of National Bank Ltd also donated Tk13 lakh for the development of mosques and Eidgah of Ahmednagar in Bhederganj.
