Khaleda plans district tours

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia plans to tour different districts soon to mobilise public opinion in favour of the 20-party alliance’s demand for the next general elections under a neutral administration.

The former premier disclosed this yesterday at a meeting of top leaders of the alliance at her Gulshan office.

She, however, did not disclose any date for the planned tour.

The meeting, presided over by Khaleda, decided that the alliance would field a common mayoral candidate in the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) election scheduled for December 21.

The alliance leaders greeted Khaleda for her ‘successful tour to Cox's Bazar’ last month to visit Rohingyas and urged her to visit different districts in phases ahead of the next polls.

The meeting discussed the latest situation in the judiciary as well as in the political arena following the resignation of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.

The leaders also suggested the BNP chief to hold a conference of lawyers in the capital to discuss the prevailing situation in the judiciary.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and alliance leaders attended the meeting that began at 8:05pm and lasted till 10:45pm.

Leaders of Kallyan Party and People League, however, were absent at the meeting.
