Jayed runs through Ctg Vikings innings

Khulna Titans’ fast bowler Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi said that he gives more importance on his performance in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) more than the country’s other domestic competition because of its strong media coverage.

Rahi came to the limelight when he played for Dhaka Dynamites in the last 2016 season of the blockbuster T20 tournament. Therefore, he changed his suit for Khulna Titans in the current BPL.

The right-handed medium pacer played two matches of the BPL first phase at his home ground but he did not fire with his cherry. The young paceman showcased his sheer grits in the very first match of the Dhaka league, in where he outshined his previous best.

“I performed more in the national league but I did not get media coverage what I should be received. Actually the coverage in BPL is more than other tournament,” said Abu Jayed, whose previous best bowling performance was three for 20. “But the performance in BPL is more important because it is highlighted more in traditional media and social media. Players are also pocking more in social media,” Rahi told in his post match briefing yesterday.

“For this, I like BPL most and try to be focused more in it,” he added.

The pacer ripped through Chittagong Vikings top-order and finally finished his bowling performance with the best figures of 4-35 what he billed himself as expensive. But he said that he should have done better further.

“I think it has been expensive. Therefore I got four wickets so it has been better because we won the match,” the 24-year-old seamer said.

When asked his lackluster performance at home ground in Sylhet, Rahi’s frank confession was that he could not perform up to the mark because he was more out of cricket.

“Honestly speaking, there was additional pressure of home crowd. Along with that, there was also pressure for tickets. For these reasons, he was focused more on out of the cricket,” Sylhet-born bowler replied with smiling.

Giving the credit to their batsmen especially middle and lower-order, the younger pacer said that their middle and tail-endering batsmen lifted them from the precarious position that catalyst role behind their victory.

“Yesterday the match was held on different wicket. Today’s wicket is another one, whereby initially we had faced a torrid time when our four wickets have gone within sixty runs,” he said.

“It was deemed that it would be better for them to bat in the second innings. But our middle and tail-endering batsmen have batted well. For them we could post big score on the board,” he also said.

Asked about their bowling strategy, the BPL sensation, Rahi said that their bowling strategy was to bowl in the right areas as much as possible.

“Our plan was to bowl in right place but if it swings, it then tries to swing. Bowling in one-sided was our planning. We moved forward according to our planning and that it has been better,” he revealed.

Both Titans and Vikings sustained an initial batting collapse what Khulna later overcame and put on a healthy total on the board but Chittagong failed to prevail and suffered the defeat. He defies the wicket’s behavour but it happened due to the hastiness of the batsmen.

“I think, players seek to make more runs in the initial overs. It may be that 60 runs in six overs. They make hasty to score such runs and fell into the collapse. It is nothing but wicket’s behavours,” he viewed.
