Police arrested three family members of Akram Hossain Khan Niloy, a top leader of banned Islamic militant outfit "Neo-JMB", for their suspected involvement in financing the terror group from a house of Gulshan-1 in the capital on Friday night, reports UNB. The arrestees are - Niloy's father Abu Torab Khan, 56, his mother Sadia Hossain Lucky, 46, and his sister Tajreen Khanam Shuvo, 29.
A special team comprising members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Lawful Interception Section (LIC) of Police Headquarters and Bogra district police, carried out a drive at their residence, house no-12 of road no-127 in Gulshan-1, around 9:30 pm on Friday and arrested the trio, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
The CTTC unit produced them before a Dhaka court yesterday seeking a 10-day remand for interrogation. After hearing, the court granted two-day remand for each of them, said the CTTC unit chief Additional Commissioner of DMP Monirul Islam.
Sources at the CTTC said the specialised unit came to know the name of Niloy while investigating the case of the Panthapath militant operation.
During the operation at Hotel Olio International in Panthapath on August 15, Saiful Islam, a suspected suicide bomber of "Neo JMB", was killed. On the morning of that day, the CTTC unit conducted the operation on the Hotel Olio International acting on secret information that the killed had planned to conduct an attack on the crowd some time on August 15 at Dhanmondi 32 during paying homage to Bangabandhu on the occasion of National Mourning Day. A case was filed with Kolabagan Police Station in connection with the incident the following day.
