Max Group bridge begins Aug 20

Max Group Bridge Tournament organised by Bangladesh Bridge Federation (BBF) will be held from August 20 to 24 at the Engineers Recreation Centre in the capital. The BBF who is working hard to popularise the game all over the country, has introduced this open tournament to encourage the budding and senior players to come forward to make it a competitive competition.
The vice-president of BBF and chairman of Max Group Ghulam M Alomgir stated this at a press conference at the BOA auditorium yesterday. Max Group has come forward to sponsor the tournament at a cost of Taka 7.50 lakh. BBF general secretary Lt Col (retd) Mosharrof Hossain, tournament director AKM Azizur Rahman and tournament convening committee assistant convenor Sanaul Haque Bakul also spoke on the
occasion. Alomgir, who is also the president of Engineers Recreation Centre, said two events- pair and team- have been included in the tournament.  
“The qualifying round of pair event will be held on August 20 and the final round on August 21. On the same day two qualifying rounds of team event will take place and the remaining five round will be staged on August 22. The two semifinals and first round of final will be held on August 23 and the second round of team final will be organised on August 24. The prize giving ceremony will take place on August 25,” said Alomgir.
Mosharrof Hossain said the tournament is open to all including foreigners staying Bangladesh. Each team will have to submit Taka 2000 for team event, while each pair will have to pay Tk 1000 as entry fee. The students are not required to pay any entry fee, the BBF secretary added. The federation is expecting about 100 players including a few female players drawn from 8-10 teams will take part in the tournament. The team event champions will receive a cash reward of Tk 80,000 and runners-up will get Tk 40,000. The winners of pair event will earn Tk 40,000 and runners-up- Tk 24,000.
The BBF has a massive plan to involve the students in the game. In its first step they will organise a tournament for university students and step by step competitions will take place for college and school students, stated Mosharrof Hossain.
