Mahbubur Rahman Shufil struck twice, as Bangladesh Under-19 football team concluded their AFC age group qualifying round with winning note when they humbled Sri Lanka 4-0 yesterday at the Hisor Central Stadium, Hisor, Tajikistan.
Bangladesh, who began the campaign with some good prospects after a goalless draw against Tajikistan in the first match, defeated Maldives in the second match by solitary goal.
But in the very next match they suffered a solitary goal defeat at the hands of Uzbekistan when defender Atikuzzaman sent the ball at his own net while trying to save a corner just before 30 seconds before final whistle, that shattered Bangladesh progress to be the best runners- up among the five groups.
Bangladesh with needing a big margin victory against Sri Lanka hinted well with scoring four goals in the first half but in the second half was ended with disappointing failing to score not a single goal.
However, according to coach Mahbubur Rahman Roxy, Biswanath Ghosh initiated the scoring in the 13th minute to lead Bangladesh when a powerful shot of Shufil on a corner rebounded hitting the side post (1-0).
Ryadul Hassan doubled the advantage on 33rd minute with a good header on a Rahmat corner (2-0).
Mahbubur Rahman Shufil who scored the winning goal against Maldives in the dying minute, opened his scoring on 38th minute to make the team’s margin 3-0 when it was a nice finishing off a combined attack when they built up the attack from mid-filed and after playing a number of passes among them, Saikat made a deep forward pass and Shufil superbly controlled the ball with his left foot and placed it into the net.
Shufil made the first half tally 4-0 when he struck his second in the added time of the opening session and this time also it was a good finish of combined effort when Bipul centered the ball inside the area and Shufil after receiving the ball powered a right foot angular shot (4-0).
