Youth jailed for harassing girl

A court in Jessore sentenced a youth to one month imprisonment for harassing a schoolgirl at Navaron Rail Bazar in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday.
The convicted youth was identified as Abdur Rahman, 35. Assistant commissioner (Land) and executive magistrate M Abdul Wadud handed down the verdict after Abdur Rahman admitted his guilt before the mobile court.
Later, the convict was handed over to police for sending him jail.
Child marriage bid foiled in Bhola
BHOLA: A mobile court here foiled an attempt to child marriage in Char Chefoli village under Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday night, reports BSS.
Being informed, a mobile court led by Md Ruhul Amin Assistant Commissioner (Land) rushed to the house of Mala Begum with police and local media persons and foiled the wedding of a class ten student Mala Begum, daughter of Fulrani Begum, a resident of the area.
Locals said the preparation of marriage between Mala Begum, 15, and Md Sobuj of Rajapur Union under Sadar upazila was going on in a family occasion last night.
However, father of the girl committed not to arrange marriage of his daughter until she attain her matured age.
Man arrested with firearms
Laxmipur: Police in a drive arrested an alleged terrorists and recovered a shutter gun and 286 bullets from Basikpur village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The arrested man was identified as Abdus Sattar, 57, a member of Laden-Masud Bahini and resident of the same area. On a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive in the area and arrested Sattar with the firearm and bullets, said Mukter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Thana.
A case was filed in this connection.
10 shops gutted in Satkhira
Satkhira: At least 10 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Kumira Bazar in Patkelghata upazila on Tuesday morning, reports UNB.
Molla Jakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station, said that the fire originated at a grocery shop from an electric short circuit around 9:30 am and engulfed the adjoining ten shops.
On information, a fire fighting team rushed in and doused the fire. The affected businessmen claimed that the loss of the fire was estimated Tk 10 lakh.
Construction worker electrocuted
MAGURA: A construction worker was electrocuted at Nauhata village under Sripur upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS. The victim was Zahid Sheikh, 19, son of Sariful Islam, a resident of Kadirpara village of the upazila.
Police said Zahid was seriously injured as he got electric shock at a construction house at about 9.30 am. He was sent to Sripur Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Incentive distributed among farmers in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ: The Government allocated over Taka 1.70 crore as farmer incentive for the flood-hit farmers in the district, reports BSS.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has been continuing the distribution of special agri-incentives among the flood-hit farmers of seven upazilas of the district.
The DAE district office sources said more than 80% of incentive has already been distributed among the flood- hit farmers for cultivating of six varieties of crops in the district. Under the programme seeds and fertilizers are being distributed among 18,237 poor and marginal farmers of the district worth of Tk.1,70,62000.00 for cultivating mustard,maize, mashkalai,groundnut, lentil and eggplant.
Each of the beneficiary farmers get 1 to 5 kg seed of different crops, 10 to 20 kg DAP and 10 Kg MOP fertilizer free of cost for cultivating one bigha of land.
