Drug peddler killed in clash
A suspected drug dealer was killed in a clash between two groups of local drug peddlers at Kadamtali in the capital early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Billal, 36, a resident of the area.
Officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police Station Abdul Jalil said two gangs of local drug peddlers locked in a clash over establishing dominance at WASA plant in the area around 3:00 am.
During the clash, Billal received bullet wounds and died on the spot.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered his body around 5:00 am, the OC added.
Housewife burnt alive allegedly by husband
A man has allegedly burnt to death following an altercation at Boro village in Kamrangirchar area of Keraniganj early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mitu, 26, wife of Jahangir Alam.
Police said Jahangir, a drug addict and stalker, beat up his wife following an altercation after having drugs and set her on fire pouring kerosene around 2:00 am, leaving her seriously burnt.
Later, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where duty doctor declared her dead. The body has been kept at morgue for autopsy.
Keraniganj Police Station officer-in-charge Shahin Fakir said they have not received any written complaint in this regard.
Legal action would be taken once a case was filed, the police official added.
Man held with 1,150 Yaba tablets
CHITTAGONG: Members of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested a man with 1,150 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from the north side of Shah Amanat Bridge under Karnaphuli police station early yesterday.
The arrested was identified as Shahdat Hossain, 40, hailed from Chandpur district, police said.
Acting on secret information, a team of Bakalia police station arrested him with the Yaba tablets beside the north side of Shah Amanat bridge around 5 am. A case was filed in this connection.
