Gas pipeline blast victim dies
A boy, who suffered injuries in a fire incident caused by gas pipeline explosion in a two-storey building at Pashchim Boxnagar in the capital’s Demra area, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early yesterday.
The deceased was Ariyan, 12, son of Chanchal Mahmud, a resident of the area. Sources at the DMCH said when two minor boys--Ariyan and Din Islam were playing in the area an explosion occurred in the gas line on Monday afternoon, injuring both of them. The injured boys were admitted to the DMCH where Ariyan succumbed to his injures at about 12:30 am.
Body found in Padma River
KERANIGANJ: Police recovered the floating body of an unidentified person from the Padma River in Char Deobhog area in Dohar upazila on Monday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known as the body had already started decomposing. Sub-inspector of Mohammadpur Police Camp Md Anis said locals found the body stuffed in a sack and floating on the river Padma on Monday afternoon and informed police. Being informed police recovered the body and sent it to Salimullah Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police suspects that miscreants might have killed him and floated in the river.
2 arrested with drug
RAJSHAHI: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged drug smugglers along with 1,566 contraband sex stimulating and cow fattening tablets from Mondumana Bazar area in Tanore upazila on Monday.
The arrestees were Rezaul Karim, 45, and Mokbul Hossain, 53. Rab-5, Rajshahi sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Mondumana Bazar area around 5pm and arrested the duo along with 1,400 contraband sex stimulating tablets and 166 cattle fattening tablets.
Man killed in road accident
SYLHET: A man was killed in a road accident in Bandarbazar area of the city on Monday night. The deceased was Shahed Miah, 30, resident of Ronirnagar village in Derai upazila. Police said the accident took place when the speedy truck hit him while he was crossing the road around 1 am, leaving him critically injured.
