BCB to set up cricket academy in Sylhet

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon on Saturday said that they will set up a cricket Academy in Sylhet for the development of the division’s overall cricket.

“There is no cricket academy in Sylhet. And so, we have decided that we will very soon build up a cricket academy in Sylhet, from where quality cricketers will come out,” said Nazmul Hassan Papon.

“These players could contribute not only for the Sylhet but also for the country. Some of them will represent Bangladesh one day in future,” Papon told while he was inaugurating the fifth BPL in the crowd-packed new venue of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) in Sylhet yesterday.

Nazmul, who recently took over the charge of the BCB for the second time as the elected president after winning uncontested, said that they will also work for the development of the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium if needed.

“Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) is one of the finest stadiums in the world. But still it has so many problems. Gradually we will try to resolve it,” the BCB new president said.

Finance minister AMA Muhith, planning minister AHM Mostafa Kamal and Salman F Rahman, Beximco Group vice-chairman and private sector development affairs adviser to Prime Minister and Bangladesh Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, among others went to the stadium to witness the BPL opening match.
