As Mohammad Saifuddin walked back to the dressing room after the first innings of the second and final T20 against South Africa, he was seen to talk to David Miller who thrashed him in the innings’ penultimate over for 31 runs with five straight sixes.
“Whatever I did in the ground—good or bad, I am used to forget it,” said Saifuddin with shy smile on his face when he was obviously noticed to the incident. However latter he disclosed the conversation between him and Miller.
“I bowled really well against him during the last over of the first match. Then he told me that you bowled very well. In reply I told you are my favourite player. I followed your batting style during my days with Under-19.”
“In the second match he hit me five straight sixes. Then I wished him after the innings. He hugged me and said after the match come to our dressing room, we’ll have drinks together. Then I said I am not used to drink. He said no problem, you come, I’ll gift you a bat.”
However Saifuddin had no time to spend with Miller as after the match there was team meeting and there was hurriedness to board on the team bus. Miller then just said, “Good luck, go ahead. You have a bright future ahead.”
It could have been six straight sixes for only the third time in international cricket after Herchelle Gibbs who did it in ODI against Netherlands and Yuvraj Singh who made it against England’s Stuart Broad during the inaugural World T20 in 2007.
