Rajshahi Kings announced Darren Sammy as their captain and Mushfiqur Rahim, as the vice-captain of the team, leaving the question stronger whether the Bangladesh’s Test skipper had already seen the end of his leadership era.
Mushfiqur’s captaincy was badly criticised for some years and it was reinforced the way he led the side in Test series in South Africa. Moreover his tussle with the team management also raised a question if BCB retain him in the post in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka at home.
However before BCB takes any decision, Rajshahi Kings didn’t allow him in leading the side though they cited the reason that they want Mushfiqur to play with free mind.
“He is coming from a tough Test tour. He needs to play with free mind at this moment. That’s why we didn’t want him to be in any pressure,” said Rajshahi Kings managing director Mohammad Sayeed during a jersey unveil ceremony of the team at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
This is the first time that Mushfiqur Rahim lost the captaincy of any domestic team in Bangladesh since he became the captain of the country’s cricket team.
