Jessore Airport will be

modernised: Menon

JESSORE: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said here today the highest initiatives would be

taken to modernize Jessore Airport for the national interest, reports BSS.

“The highest initiatives will be taken to expand and modernize Jessore Airport as not only the regional interest, also the national interest is involved with it,” he said while exchanging views with local businesspeople here.

Menon, also the Workers Party president, said the issue of flight frequencies from the airport is under consideration. At the meeting, the businessmen handed over a memorandum to the minister. On behalf of the Beanpole C& F Agents Association, Matiar Rahman and on behalf of Jessore Chamber of Commerce, Shaheen Chowdhury were present.

Later, a delegation of Jessore Zilla School Alumni Association met the minister and invited him to take part in 180th founding anniversary of the school.

Firearms seized in C’nawabganj

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered two foreign-made pistols, four magazines and 10 bullets from Housenagar village under Shibganj upazila in the district on Thursday.

BGB officials said during a regular patrol duty on the road in the aforesaid area around 5:30 pm, BGB members detained an auto-rickshaw. Then, a passenger of the auto-rickshaw fled away leaving behind a bag.  After searching the bag, BGB found the arms and ammunition. Later, BGB handed over the recovered arms and ammunition to the police of Shibganj police station.

Man dies while ‘making bombs’   

Chapainawabganj: A man was killed in an explosion allegedly while making bombs at Mordana Bamunpara village in Shibganj upazila yesterday afternoon, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Taifur Rahman, 40, son of Fazlur Rahman. Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station, said the blast took place around 1:45pm while Taifur was making bombs on the rooftop of his brother Saifuddin’s house, leaving him critically injured.

He was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. On information, police recovered bomb-making substances from the spot.

90 crude bombs recovered

Police recovered some 90 crude bombs from a three-storied house in Kharki area in the district town on Thursday night.

House owner Mahbubur Rahman claimed a group of unidentified young men entered his house with some bags around 8 pm. Later, he informed police about the matter.

Following this, at least eight police team, led by additional superintendent of police Salahuddin Shikder, rushed to the spot and recovered the bags filled with crude bombs around 9:30 pm. However, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the young men fled the scene. , said officer-in-charge (Detective Branch) Maniruzzaman.
