Yunnan vows to contribute to building a beautiful China
The 19th CPC National Congress report included the concept of “harmony between man and nature” as a basic policy underpinning China’s endeavours to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. The report explicitly pointed out that “we must realize that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, and act on this understanding.” Congressional representatives from the Yunnan delegation said that the provincial government will protect its superior natural environment—its most valuable asset—as they would protect the preciousness of their own eyes. The province will give top priority to the governance of Dianchi Lake and other bodies of water, while remaining committed to scientific, systematic, intensive and law-based governance. This will be done through a number of measures. They include further protecting the river chief systems, comprehensively promoting ecological compensation mechanisms for those rivers, and aggressively implementing an audit of environmental resources. The provincial government will also promote the holistic governance of mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes and grassland areas so as to bring about fundamental improvements to make the skies bluer, the land greener and the water cleaner.
Never abandoning any ethnic groups
The phrase “making all ethnic groups united like pomegranate seeds” put forward in the report of the 19th National Congress of the CPC has become a catchphrase for representatives from Yunnan.
According to Yunnan representatives, infrastructure development and environmental protection have been focuses in promoting ethnic unity over the past several years. Targeted poverty alleviation is also quite important for Yunnan, as people from most ethnic groups live in underdeveloped mountainous regions. Therefore, promoting ethnic unity is indispensable from consistent poverty alleviation efforts and helps ensure no ethnic group in Yunnan is left behind .
Reviving cultural prosperity to build national confidence
In his general report for the 19th CPC National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that culture is the very soul that determines the destiny of a nation. Therefore, cultural prosperity and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is not possible without robust cultural confidence.
Largely resonating with the report, the cultural community of Yunnan has been encouraged to look into creating a confident future through the developing the quintessence of the province’s ethnic cultures. This will serve the people’s cultural needs in line with the idea of cultural development with Chinese characteristics. Artists shall make concerted efforts to be culturally innovative in order to promote the results of the country’s efforts to reform, open-up and create a modern Socialist state. (Yunnan Daily )
