Two to die for killing worker

A Gazipur court sentenced two people to death for killing a workshop technician Uzzal Chandra Monidash of Kapasia upazila on December 17 in 2016. The judge of Gazipur district and session judge’s court AKM Enamul Haque handed down the verdict on Tuesday morning.

The convicts were identified   as Mohammed Shakil, 20, son of Mohammed Mostafa of Targaon Moddhapara area of Kapasia upazila in the district and Sonjibon Chandra Monidash, 23, son of Shawpon Chandra Monidash of Targaon Rishipara area of same upazila.

The court also sentenced 5 years imprisonment and fined Tk 2,000 to each convict. Convicts Shakil and Sonjibon were present in the court during the verdict.

According to the prosecution, Shakil and Sonjibon called Uzzal Chandra Monidash, a workshop technician of M/S Atikul workshop at Chinaduli Baghia area of Kapasia upazila and took him nearby riverside and hacked him with sharp weapons at night on December 17 in 2016. Later, they threw the body into the river. After two days of the incident, Uzzal’s floating body was found in Shitalakkhaya River in Junia area of the upazila on December 19.  

 Deceased’s brother Uttam Chandra Monidash filed a case with Kapasia police station in this connection against Shakil, Sonjibon and Bhobotush Mollick on that day.

The investigation officer of the case SI Moniruzzaman submitted a charge sheet against the accused on August 2 in 2017.  After the hearing and examining 16 witnesses and relevant evidences, the judge pronounced the verdict against Shakil and Sonjibon on Tuesday.

On the other hand, Bhobotosh Mollick was released from the case as the allegation against him could not proved.
