Minor rape victim seeks justice in Sherpur
Sherpur: The family of an 11-year old rape victim demanded justice in a case filed over the rape incident, reports UNB.
Father of the victim alleged that the criminals involved are trying to release themselves from the case.
As part of their ill attempt, they managed the doctors of Sherpur Hospital for providing false report mentioning that no rape evidence was found in the medical test, alleged the victim’s father.
He also said that they have refused the report provided by the medical board of Sherpur Hospital and appealed before the court for conducting second medical test at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital or elsewhere.
Shuvro Saha, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, also investigation officer of the case, said that he has prayed to the court for conducting a DNA test of samples including victim’s clothes. He also said that the court here on Saturday placed one-day remand to the prime accused Jasim Uddin.
The court also fixed Sunday for hearing on a petition filed for conducting medical test again.
The class-three girl was raped allegedly by Jashim at Dashkahniya village in Charsherpur union of Sadar upazila on October 6.
Victim’s family members said that Jasim Uddin, a resident of the same village who is a father of two children, chased the girl while she was returning from a local market in the afternoon and he forcibly took her in a paddy field.
Later, he raped the girl. After being rescued by locals, the victim was taken to her house first. As her condition deteriorated, she was then admitted to Sherpur Sadar Hospital. The accused went into hiding after a case was filed at night against Jasim. However, Jasim surrendered before the court.
Ex-BCL VP killed in Jessore

Former vice president of Jessore District Chhatra League was shot to death by criminals at Gulgolla of the city on Saturday.
The deceased was Monwar Hossain Imon, 32, son of Anowar Hossain of Bejpara Gulgolla area.
Imon was shot by criminals around 11pm when he was playing with his friend at Gulgolla Chattar, said AKM Ajmal Huda, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station.
Later, he was taken to Jessore General Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead on the way. However, Police couldn’t identify culprits immediately, OC added.
Female drug peddler held

Police arrested a woman along with hemp from Ghonapara Bazar in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj district on Saturday.
The arrestee was identified as Monira of Bhadulia village in the upazila. According to sources, suspecting Monira’s movement a night guard of that area obstructed her and seized two kgs of hemp from her possession. On information, police arrested the woman.
In primary interrogation Monira admitted to police that of 30 kg of hemp she sold 28 kg. A case was filed against her in this connection, police sources said.
Father, son electrocuted
MAGURA: Two of a family were electrocuted and two others injured at Shatokhali village under Shalikha upazila of the district yesterday afternoon, reports BSS.
The deceased were Abur Rashid, 50, and his son Hasan Ali, 25, brick kiln workers and residents of Chadkhali village under Pikegachha upazila in Khulna district.
Officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station Robiul Islam said Hasan came in touch of a live electric cable at the laborer mess when he was repairing the electric line. His father and two others workers came forward to help him but all of them injured critically. They were sent to Magura 250-bed hospital where Rashid and Hasan died.
27 arrested in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police, in separate drives from Saturday evening to yesterday morning, arrested 27 people on various charges from different parts of the district, reports BSS.
Among them, 12 persons were arrested from Sadar Upazila, 3 from Kalaroa, 2 from Tala, 2 from Kaliganj, 2 from Shyamnagar, 3 from Assashuni, 1 from Debhata and 2 from Patkelghata. Police also recovered 125 bottles of phensidyl and 8 pieces of yaba tablets during the drives.
District police officials said the arrestees were sent to jail by a court order.
Student commits suicide
Jessore: A college student reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a bar of the ceiling of his home at Aranda village of Sadar Upazila on Saturday noon, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Omit Roy, 20, son of Somir Roy of Aranda village of Sadar Upazila and a 3rd year student of Jessore Model Polytechnic College.
Omit Roy killed himself after coming back from college this afternoon, said Bikash Roy, uncle of Omit Roy.
Hearing scream of Omit’s mother, local rushed to the spot and taken Omit to Jessore General Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.
Farmers see bumper Boro yield
NETRAKONA: The flood-affected farmers are now seeing a hope of bumper Boro production as the government has undertaken an incentive package to help them for recouping losses caused by flash flooding during the last Boro season in the district, reports BSS.
After being inspired by the farmers-friendly programs of the government, the farmers of all ten Upazilas are now taking all out preparations to make massive Boro cultivation during the forthcoming season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials said the government has already allocated Taka 13.65 crore for the 70,000 flood-hit Boro cultivators.
The selected farmers will get 350 tonnes improved quality Boro seeds, 1,400 tonnes of DAP fertilizers, 700 tonnes of MOP fertilizers at free of cost and Taka seven crore in cash, they said.
