Jamaat ameer arrested
Bagerhat: Police, in a drive, arrested an ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami from Rampal Chalker Matt area on charge of planning sabotage early yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Sheikh Abu Naser, 55, ameer of Rampal upazila unit Jamaat and also former chairman of Bouramva union parishad.
Tipped off that some leaders-activists of Jamaat and Islami Chhatra Shibir are holding clandestine meeting for carrying out sabotage, a team of police conducted the drive and arrested Abu Naser.
Some 30/35 other leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir managed to flee the spot, said Skeikh Lutfar Rahman, officer-in charge of Rampal police station.
The arrestee is being interrogated at the police station. The process is underway to file a case against him. He was also accused in another case filed with the police station, he said.
Truck kills policeman in Bogra

A police constable was killed as a truck hit his motorbike in front of Sajahanpur upazila parishad of the district yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Belal Hossain, 35, a constable of Sherpur Police Station and son of Mofiz uddin of Betkandi village in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district..

occurred on the Dhaka-Bogra highway at about 8.30 am when a truck hit the bike from opposite direction, leaving the bike rider Belal dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police seized the truck and arrested the truck driver Saidur Rahman, 22, from Sherpur area of the district.
One held with phensidyl

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged illegal drug peddler along with 550 bottles of contraband Indian phensidyl from 4 No Beribandh area under Shibganj upazila of the district on Friday night.
The arrested person is identified as Babu Mia, 21, son of late Ziarul Islam of Gamerchar village under Shibganj upazila.
According to BGB sources, acting on a tip-off a patrol team of BGB from Chowka border out post raided the aforesaid area at around 10.30 pm and arrested Babu with the phensidyl.
During the raid another alleged smuggler identified as Murshed, 25, son of Gani of the same area, fled away, the sources added.
The arrested person was handed over to police of Shibganj Police Station with a case.
One hacked to death in Magura
MAGURA: A man was hacked to death by his neighbor at Tupipara village in Sreepur Upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Shamim Khan, 35, hailed from the village.
Police said Shamim was exchanging some hot words with one of his neighbor Monirul Islam over a cow. At one stage Monirul hit Shamim with sharp weapon. After the incident, Shamim was admitted to Magura 250 bed hospital where he died after few minutes.
Police arrested Monirul Islam.
Newly-married woman found dead

A newly married woman allegedly committed suicide hanging from ceiling of her bed room at Dhunut upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Beauty Khatun, 18, wife of Sajib Uddin of Randila village in the upazila.
Police quoting local people said Beauty, daughter of Mintu Mia, was married off with Sajib about three months ago. But there was a feud between them over an alleged illegal relationship of Beauty with another person. Recently arbitration took place between two families in this regard.
Family members found Beauty hanging yesterday around 9.00 am. Farukul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Dhunut Police Station, said being informed police recovered the body and sent it to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Student electrocuted
HABIGANJ: A student of class eight was electrocuted at South Teghoria village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The victim was Humayan, 13, a student of Ideal High School and son of
Ramij Ali, a resident of the same area.
Police said Humayan was seriously injured as he got electric shock near
his house at about 9 am. He died on the way to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Yasinul Haque confirmed the matter.
‘Work on Akhaura-Agartala
railway route to begin soon’
Brahmanbaria: Railways Minister M Mazibul Hoque on Friday said work on the Bangladesh portion of the proposed Akhaura-Agartala railway route will begin within the next two months, reports UNB.
He came up with the information while talking to reporters at the Akhaura checkpost before leaving for Agartala to attend a Bangladesh-India Friendship programme of the Rotary Club of Agartala.
Mentioning that Bangladesh and India had 12 railway routes which were closed after the India-Pakistan partition, he said there is a plan to reopen those.
The second rail bridge over the Titas and the Bhairab rivers have already been completed and those will be inaugurated within a few days, he said, adding that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is supposed to join the inauguration ceremony through a videoconference.
