Alam Khan turns 74 today

Seven times National Film Award winner, ‘living legend’ composer and music director Alam Khan turned 74 today. Famous for songs like ‘O re Neel Doriya’ and ‘Haire Manush Rongin Fanush’, Alam Khan said no special programme has been organised for the birthday celebration as he will be observing the anniversary with family in a small and simple manner.

Private TV channel ‘Channel i’, however, has taken up a programme where two artistes will wish the music director many happy returns and honour him by singing his composed songs in his presence during the programme ‘Shera Gaan’ directed by Anonna Ruma. The programme will be telecast live today at 2:30pm.

Commenting on his birthday Alam Khan says, “I still cannot fathom how I am turning 74 years old. It’s like, I was 10 years old just then. I am in awe thinking how the time has passed. Only thing that I now seek from everyone is to keep praying for my good health and well being.” He also said about his work, “I am thinking of some new projects and I want to finish them before I die.”

Alam Khan last worked as the song director in ‘Ke Apon Ke Por’, a film directed by Amit Hasan.

Alam khan began his career at the early age of 10 as a composer and singer under many popular singing legends. His first released composed song ‘O Madhobi Go Mor Ontorey’ sung by Roushan Ara Mustafij gained huge popularity before and after the liberation war. He made his first debut as music director in 1970 by working in the film ‘Kach Kata Hire’ under the direction of Abdul Jabbar Khan. His famous song ‘Ore Nil Doriya’ from the film ‘Sareng Bou’ directed by Abdullah Al Mamun made him a centre of attention in the music industry. He bagged his first National Film Award by directing the song ‘Haire Manush Rongin Fanush Dom Furailey Thush’ from the film ‘Boro Valo Lok Chilo’ directed by Mohiuddin. The song was written by Syed Shamsul Haque and sang by Andrew Kishore. He worked in several films including ‘Tin Konna’, ‘Dinkal’, ‘Ki Jadu Korila’, ‘Bagher Thaba’ and many more. l
