Nakla UZ chairman found dead
Sherpur: Police recovered the hanging body of Nakla Upazila chairman from his residence at Kursha in Nakla Upazila headquarters here yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mahbub Ali alias Manir, 65. Informed by locals, police recovered Manir’s body, hanging from the ceiling of his house around 8 am, said Khan Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Nakla Police Station.
Police suspected that Manir might have committed suicide. Manir used to live at the house with his second wife, the OC added.
Couple killed over land dispute

A couple was stabbed to death at Chakkatali Tetultala village in Gabtali upazila on Thursday following a dispute over the ownership of a piece of land.
The deceased wereJillal Hossain, 32, son of Madhu Pramanik, and his wife Bulbuli Begum, 22, of Chakkatali Tetultala village.
Police sources said Jillal had long been at loggerheads with his neighbour Arman Hossain Ghetu over the ownership of the land piece.
On Thursday night, Jillal locked into an altercation with Arman over the issue. At one stage, Arman stabbed Jillal and his wife Bulbuli with a knife, leaving the couple severely injured, said officer-in-charge of Gabtali Police Station Khairul Bashar.
Jillal succumbed to his injuries on the way to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital while Bulbuli died at the hospital around 9pm, he said.
Man arrested with 1.5 kg heroin

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug peddler along with 1.5 kg heroin from Baroroshia in Sadar upazila yesterday.
The arrestee was Mozammel Haq, 55, son of Gias Uddin of the village.
On information, a team of RAB-5 raided the house of Mozammel and recovered 1.5 kg heroin, kept in a bag, from the house around 8 pm, said Major Ashraf, Commanding officer of RAB-5.
Construction worker electrocuted

A construction worker died from electrocution and another suffered severe injuries at Majhidpur village in Keshabpur upazila on Thursday afternoon.
Locals said Abdul Majid, 33, son of late Abdul Gafur Sheikh and Babul, 20, son of Abdul Hamid, got electrocuted while working at the house of one Atiar Rahman, a resident of the village.
Later, witnesses rescued the duo and took them to Keshabpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Abdul Majid dead.
Babul was referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
