Police have arrested a Patuakhali municipal councillor for possession of yaba tablets at South Sabujbag in the district town on Friday night.

Akhtaruzzaman Nobel is the municipal councillor of ward no. 4. He is assistant secretary of district BNP and also member of Patuakhali District Bar Association.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said acting on secret information police conducted a drive at South Sabujbag at about 11 pm and arrested Nobel along with 10 pieces of yaba. At that time police also nabbed Nobel’s close associate Porag.

OC Mostafizur Rahman said after a narcotics case was filed by the police, Nobel was presented at the court and sent to jail yesterday.
