13 Bangladeshis rescued while being trafficked

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 13 Bangladeshi people, including a child, from Sadipur border under Benapole port police station while they were being trafficked to India yesterday. They hail from different areas of Pirojpur and Bagerhat districts. Lt Col Arifur Rahman , commanding officer of 49 Border Guard Bangladesh battalion , said tipped off, a team of border guards conducted a drive in the area and arrested thee women, nine men and a child.Sensing the presence of the BGB men, the human traffickers fled away. Later BGB members handed them over over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed with the police station in this connection.

 

Inmate dies of ‘chest pain’ in jail

Sherpur: A prisoner died at Sherpur Jail on early Thursday after he reportedly suffered chest pain, reports UNB.

Jailer Md Ismail Hossain said Shamim Miah, 32, the prime accused of a killing case, was granted bail by a court here on Wednesday.

Documents of his bail order had reached the jail at night. But, he suffered chest pain around 2:00 am and was rushed to Sherpur District Hospital where doctor declared him dead around 2:55 am, added the jailer.

After conducting autopsy, his body was handed over to his family members this noon.

Man stabbed to death

A Man was stabbed to death by his nephew at Shir Gram bazar in Alphadanga upazila of Faridpur district following an altercation over land related dispute on Wednesday.

The deceased was Azizar Molla, 60, son of late Manik Molla of Uthuli village in the upazila.

Md Nazmul Karim, officer-in-charge of Alphadanga police station said an altercation took place at about 11am between Azizar Molla and his nephew Ali Reza over a piece of land at the bazaar. At one stage of altercation Reza stabbed his uncle Azizar Molla leaving him seriously injured. He was first admitted to Boalmari upazila health complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Faridpur Medical Collage Hospital (FMCH) where he succumbed to his injures at around 1pm.

A case in this connection is under process, the OC said.  

Relief distributed among Rohingyas

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has just finished distributing relief materials among Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazaar, says a press release. IUB’s 3-day-long relief activities took place at Ghundum Camp, Ramu, Ukhiya where the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Milan Pagon led the university team and Registrar, Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Anwarul Islam coordinated the project activity.

As part of IUB’s philanthropic and benevolent endeavors to support deprived humanity; the university distributed 1,200 bags of aid containing rice, lentils, salt, potato and milk powder. The team also distributed essential medicines of Tk 2 lakh, 200 pieces of bed sheets, and set up 10 water pumps and 20 slab-latrines. A total of 23mt of food relief of Tk 25 lakh was allocated by honorable trustees of the university to carry out the activities.

Administrative officials of the university and members of IUB’s Social Welfare Club took part in distribution of aids among the deprived Rohingyas. Bangladesh Army extended all sorts of cooperation to IUB team in designing and accomplishing the project.
