Ten people were sentenced to death for murder in Jessore and Jhalakathi districts yesterday. Our Jessore correspondent reports: A court in Jessore yesterday sentenced nine people to life term imprisonment for killing an UP member in 2005. Among the convicts, three accused were present in the dock during the hearing while six others—Enamul Haque, Kabir, Anis, Biplob Mia, Kamarul Mandal, Ajam Fakir—remained absconding.
According to the case statement, Insanul Haque, a member of Deyara union parishad in Sadar upazila, was killed by the convicts during a robbery on July 8 in 2005. Later, Ijarul Haque Jewel, son of the victim, filed a murder and robbery case accusing unnamed people.
After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1, Md Iman Ali Sheikh handed down the verdict.
In Jhalakathi, a court yesterday sentenced a youth to life-term imprisonment for murdering a college girl named Sharmin Akhter in Nalchity upazila of the district in 2013, reports BSS. District Additional and Session judge Md Bozlur Rahman handed down the verdict to Mehedi Hassan. According to prosecution, on February 27 in 2013 Mehedi Hassan killed the girl beside her house at Timirkathi village by stabbing as her parents refused his marriage proposal.
