Aushad Shilpa Samity to provide healthcare services for Rohingyas

The Bangladesh Aushad Shilpa Samity (BASS) has decided to provide medical services and take the responsibility of 12 medical camps set up by the government in Cox’s Bazar to help thousands of Rohingyas, said BASS president Nazmul Hassan. He made this disclosure at a press briefing at the BASS headquarters in the capital yesterday.
Hassan said that within a week BASS would start providing various types medical assistance that would include sending doctors, nurses and medical assistants as well as supplying medicines. “Taking specialists to Ukhiya is expensive and difficult. So, we have decided to bear all the expenses,” he added.
He also said his organisation wanted to work in collaboration with the government. “For that, a task force has already been formed to make this project feasible,” he added.
“Each medical camp has the capacity to serve 240 patients daily. This is a large number. So, two doctors will take the responsibility of each camp,” he said.
“Our BASS members have agreed to provide necessary drugs from their depots located in different parts of the country,” he added.
BASS secretary general SM Shafiuzzaman said 80,000 pregnant Rohingya women and 400 children need daily healthcare support at Cox’s Bazar medical camps.
The government has set up 36 medical camps in and around the refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar to offer healthcare services to the Rohingyas.
