Case filed for violating girl
Benapole: A case was filed against a man for attempting to rape a minor girl in Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Wednesday, reports UNB. Victim’s family filed the case against Alamgir Hossain, 45, a resident of Shikarpur village, with Sharsha Police Station in the night, said police.
According to the case statement, the accused Alamgir took away a five-year-old girl to an abandoned place when she went out from her home to call in her mother around 7:30 am. As the girl did not return home, victim’s brother went out from his home to search for the girl. Hearing screams of a child, he went to the place and found the girl while Alamgir ran away from the spot.
Later, she was taken to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex where the doctors referred her to Jessore General Hospital.
PDB worker electrocuted
SHERPUR: A worker of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) was electrocuted and two others were injured in Lava area under Nakla upazila of the district yesterday noon, reports BSS.
The victim was Zahid Hossain, 26, a worker of BPDB and son of Motiur Miah, a resident of Kursabadgour area of the upazila town. Officer-in-charge of Nakla police station Khan Abdul Halim said they got electric shock while repairing an electric line of PDB in the area.
Zahid died on the spot and two others injured were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
17 accused held in Habiganj
HABIGANJ: Police, in regular drives from Wednesday night to this morning, arrested 17 accused including 13 warranted accused from different areas of the district, reports BSS.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nazim Uddin said they were picked up from different areas of the district on different charges. Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, have been filed with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added.
The arrested were sent to jail.
Man missing after bath in Padma
Shariatpur: young man went missing in the Padma River at Ishwarkathi area in Naria upazila of the district on Wednesday morning, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Amzad Shouwal, 25, son of Sayed Ali Shouwal of the village.
Md Ashlam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Naria Police Station confirming the incident said Amzad went mysteriously missing in Padma River while he was taking a bath around 7:30am.
