Mason electrocuted
A Mason was electrocuted while working at an under-construction building beside Patenga Neval Academy under Patenga thana in the city early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Hoque, 35, son of Bazlur Rahman, hailed from Feni district. Police outpost sources at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) said Abdul Hoque was electrocuted while working at the under-construction building in the area at about 5 am Wednesday. He was rushed to CMCH where the attending doctors declared him dead.
Medical student ‘kills’ self
A student of Chittagong Medical College allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Boalkhali Municipality Sadar of the district on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Sherin Akter Rekha, 23, daughter of Saleh Ahmed, hailed from Doliler Baperbari of Boalkhali Municipality Sadar of the district also a fourth-year student of the medical college hospital.
Quoting the victim's relatives, Salehuddin Chowdhury, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalkhali thana, said Sherin might have committed suicide by hanging herself over family feud.
She was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where attending doctors declared her dead, CMCH police outpost sources said.
The body was sent to the morgue for autopsy, the sources added.
Youth held with 6,000 yaba
Members of Highway police arrested a youth with 6,000 pieces of yaba tablets after searching a passengers bus in Gorahmara area of Sitakunda upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The arrested was identified as Mohammad Rony Islam, 21, hailed from
Durgapur upazila of Rajshahi district.
On a tip-off, a team of the Sitakunda Highway Thana Police nabbed Rony with the contraband drugs after searching a Dhaka-bound passengers bus in the area around 10 am, police sources said.
