Customs intelligence early yesterday arrested a Malaysia bound passenger along with a huge quantity of foreign currency equivalent to Taka 1.29 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city, reports BSS. “We arrested one Mamun Mia, 41, of Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj from check-in counter of 16 no boarding bridge area of the airport and recovered a huge quantity of foreign currency equivalent to Taka 1.29 crore from his possession around 2am today,” director general (DG) of customs intelligence Dr Mainul Khan told BSS. The foreign currency include Saudi Riyal, UAE Dirham, Malaysian Ringgit, Thai Baht, Indian and Sri Lankan Rupee, he also said. “We suspected that Mamun, who went abroad 24 times this year, is a carrier and going to Malaysia with the huge amount of money to purchase smuggling goods,” he added.
