Bangladesh Primary School Teachers Association, Mymensingh unit, yesterday demanded a government action against the local ruling party lawmaker and his henchmen for harassing a primary school teacher and his family.
The plea came at a press conference held in the town where the leaders of the association urged the authorities to ensure security for the teacher’s family.
According to reports, AKM Mazharul Anwar Ferdous, headmaster of the Dharua Government Primary School, and his family are being harassed by ruling party MP Capt (retd) Mujibur Rahman Fakir, and his supporters.
The teacher has, in the meantime, filed a case with the local police station under the Speedy Trial Act.
Earlier on August 7, the headmaster at a press conference at the Mymensingh Press Club alleged that he was transferred to the Gouripur Poura Model Primary School on the recommendation from the primary and mass education minister, Mustafizur Rahman, on March 31 this year. “But the acting headmaster there did not accept my joining letter,” he said adding that his fault was not to have prior permission of the lawmaker on joining the school.
"My wife -- Rozi Sultana -- is an assistant teacher of the school and my son, Mutasim Mahir Rafid, is a class-IV student there. The headmaster in-charge, Mukbul Hossain, has issued a transfer certificate for my son as directed by the lawmaker and the boy is being barred from taking admission in any school in the area," alleged Anwar Ferdous, also the secretary of the Primary School Teachers' Samity, Gouripur unit.
The gang loyal to the lawmaker allegedly attacked Ferdous at Moilakanda in Gouripur on June 5 this year leaving him critically injured. Later, he was taken to the lawmaker’s office at Kaltapara in Gouripur in the evening and was tortured further.
The association leaders yesterday also urged the authorities to let Anwar Ferdous join his post in the school and allow his son to take admission in any school.
