Uphold dignity of judiciary

Acting Chief Justice Abdul Wahhab Miah yesterday urged all judges of the Supreme Court to work sincerely in order to uphold the image and dignity of the judiciary. He made the call at a full court meeting convened hours after his taking responsibilities of the chief justice. Both the Appellate Division and the High Court Division judges attended the 15-minute meeting from 2.40pm. "Please work sincerely during my tenure so that the image and dignity of the judiciary can be upheld," the acting chief justice said. After holding hearing in some cases at the Appellate Division, the acting chief justice along with other judges of the Appellate Division and the High Court Division also sat with the Supreme

Court lawyers at a courtesy meeting on the Supreme Court premises. The acting chief justice will form the High Court benches after changing their current jurisdictions. The High Court benches will be reshuffled within a few days, sources said. Soon after Monday’s disclosure of Sinha’s going on a month’s leave on health grounds from October 3, the law ministry issued a gazette notification stating that Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, a senior judge of the Appellate Division, would discharge the duties of the chief justice in the absence of Sinha.
