DU tree plantation Aug 19
As part of increasing beautification and greenery of the Dhaka University (DU), the tree plantation programme will be inaugurated on August 19, said a university release. DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) AAMS Arefin Siddique will inaugurate the programme as the chief guest. The programme will be inaugurated on the premises of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, it said. Pro-VC (education) Nasrin Ahmad, Dhaka University Tree Plantation and Beautification Committee Chairman and Pro-VC (admin) Shahid Akhter Hussain and Treasurer M Kamaluddin, will be present as special guests in the function.
BRUR admission tests Dec 6-8
RANGPUR: Admission tests for the first year honours courses for 2015-16 academic session in Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) will be held on December 6, 7 and 8. The decision was taken at a meeting of the admission test committee held at the office of Vice-chancellor (VC) AKM Nurun Nabi on Thursday afternoon, said a press release. Presided over by the VC, Members of the admission test committee, Deans of all six Faculties and heads of all 21 departments attended the meeting. The date for online registration process for the admission tests of the first year honours courses for 1,195 seats in all 21 departments under the six faculties will be announced later.
Debate competition held at DU
Anwara Bashit Sharok Debate Competition-2015 was held at Teacher-Student Center (TSC) auditorium in Dhaka University on Thursday. Cultural Debating Club of Sanskrit department and Rokeya Bitarka Ongan of Rokeya Hall organised the competition with assistance from Anwara Bashit Memorial Foundation. Pro- vice chancellor Shahid Akhtar Hossain addressed the function as the chief guest while Sanskrit Debating Club chairman M Al-Amin was in the chair. Chairman of Department of Sanskrit Dulal Chandra Voumik, Sanskrit Debating Club advisor Nironjon Odikari and DU debating society moderator Mahbuba Nasrin were present as especial guests. JnU unveils Tk 51.85cr budget The Jagannath University (JnU) authorities on Thursday announced a budget of Tk 51.85 crore for the 2015-16 fiscal year. The annual budget was passed at the 68th syndicate meeting of the university around 3:30pm. Of the total budget, Tk 33.65 crore will be spent for the salaries of the JnU teachers, officials and employees while Tk 10 crore for their pensions, Tk 8 crore for the academic sectors.

Mugger held in city
Rezaul haque, sylhet: A mugger held with red handed by people while he was fleeing away after snatching a woman purse bag at Rkabibazar area in the city on Thursday afternoon. Another was manage to flee. The arrestee was identified as Musa,25, son of Nazim Uddin, a resident of Kulaura Upozila. police said a woman when she was on a rickshaw at Rikabibazar area around 1.00pm. Two muggers riding motorcycles intercepted the her rickshaw and snatched away a purse bag from her possession. Utfol Shorkar, Sub inspector of Kutwali Police Station, said police arrest a mugger with the help of local people in the city. Later purse bag was handover to woman.
