Power supply has been restored in Sirajganj and adjacent districts after remaining disrupted for five months following the collapse of the national grid lines in a nor’wester in May, Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) sources said yesterday.

Power supply resumed at dawn bringing 200KVV supply of electricity through the grid, normalising the operational capacity of several units of the Ashuganj Power Plant and other privately operated plants.

However, normal supply to the grid with its full capacity of 300KV will be restored from October 1, Masud Al Beruni, managing director of the PGCB told The Independent.

Engineer Sazzadur Rahman, MD of Ashuganj Power Plant Ltd, said with the restoration of the grid, generation capacity of the plant has become normal after the gridline collapsed during the nor’wester forcing reduced power supply.

The severe nor’wester uprooted two pylons in Kalipur village of Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj on May 1 crashing the grid. Engineers and technicians worked untiringly and repaired the two towers to connect the gridlines, bringing relief to the people who suffered a lot due to prolonged lack of electricity, Sazzadur Rahman added.
