Ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh Panpimon Suwannapongse on Thursday expressed her country’s keen interest to set up a 5 MW power plant in Chittagong, reports UNB. Idea of setting up such small power plant was placed during her meeting with Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin at the Mayor’s residence in Andarkilla of the city. The plant will use recycled waste to generate electricity. The mayor sought Thai cooperation to implement a special tree plantation
on the hills to prevent mountain erosion and also informed the Thai envoy about various service activities of the CCC. Nasir said the CCC has been conducting pro-grammes to take the healthcare services to the doorsteps of the port city dwellers while more than schools are being run under the city corporation.
He also said that the CCC has being putting priority on the improvement of its environment and greening activities in order to build up the port city as world class one.
