Different Islamic parties and organisations yesterday demanded the deployment of international peacekeepers in Myanmar's Rakhine state under the supervision of the United Nations (UN). They demanded that the Myanmar authority’s “cleansing drive” of the Rohingyas be stopped at once.
The parties and organisations staged demonstrations in Dhaka against Myanmar’s atrocities against Rohingya Muslims in Arakan state.
Islami Oikya Jote chairman Maulana Abdul Latif Nezami condemned the atrocities and demanded that the Myanmar army and state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi be tried in the international court for crimes against humanity for the “genocide” of Rohingya Muslims.
Speaking at a rally at the North Gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Nezami called upon the international community, the UN, and the Organisation of Isalmic Cooperation to play an active role in stopping the killing and repression of Rohingya Muslims. Nezami, who presided over the meeting, also extended his support to the five-point proposal that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has placed before the UN.
