Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh yesterday said that an ‘independent Arakan’ is the only solution to the ongoing Rohingya crisis in Myanmar. Leaders of Hefazat, a qawmi madrasha-based organization, made this observation while addressing a programme held to besiege the Myanmar embassy in the capital. The organisation’s leaders and activists, in hundreds, launched a huge procession from the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at around 12 noon to besiege the embassy in Gulshan. The law enforcers, however, obstructed the procession at Shantinagar intersection and the agitators sat on the street there and a rally was held at the spot led by Hefazat’s Dhaka city convenor Maulana Noor Hossain Kashemi. Senior leaders Maulana Abdur Rab Yusufi, Jonayed Al Habib, Ataullah Hafezi and Mahfuzul Haque also addressed the rally. Later, a six member delegation went to the Myanmar embassy and handed over a memorandum protesting the genocide on Muslims in Rakhaine State in that country. In the memorandum, Hefazat also demanded an end to atrocities in Rakhaine, providing citizenship to Rohingyas and taking back the Rohingya refugees, who have taken shelter in Bangladesh.
