Visa consultancy firm ‘cheats’ students

A student visa consultancy firm has allegedly swindled a number of students out of a large amount of money in the name of sending them abroad for study and jobs. According to a complaint lodged with Airport Police Station by one of the victims, identified as Sadikur Rahman, Triangle Overseas Study Solutions (TOSS) took around Tk44 lakh from ten students promising to send them abroad.
The other victims were identified as Asheq Hossain, Saddam Hossain, Rubayet Bin Ibrahim, Modasser Chaklader, Shamim Hossain, Shafiul Fahad Shakil and Ibne Raihan. “The company assured to send us to the USA, Australia and Canada through student visas. They also committed to arrange jobs for us in the countries,” Sadikur claimed.
Being suspicious, the victims several times went to the office of TOSS at Uttara in the city, but they did not find the mastermind Tanvir Ahmed.
Later as they contacted Lutfor Chowdhury, country manager of the company, on June 6 and pressured him either to send them broad or return their money, he threatened the victims with dire consequences, the complaint read.
