Madrasah teacher held

for sexual assault

 A madrasah teacher was arrested from Andulia village in Chaugachha upazila on Friday morning for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor student.

The arrested was identified as Hafez Khobayer, 40, a teacher of Andulia Hafizia Madrasah and an inhabitant of Gobra village in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj

district. Local people said Khobayer unleashed the sexual assault on the madrasah student on Thursday night.

The victim narrated the brutality to his parents on Friday morning.

Later, his parents informed the incident to the villagers who caught Khobayer from his rented house at the village and handed him over the police after giving him a good beating.

The victim's father filed a case with Chaugachha Police Station in this connection.

Worker dies ‘being punched’

Jessore: A worker of at Roman Jute Mills in Abhaynagar upazila died as he was punched allegedly by one of his colleagues over a trivial matter early Friday, reports

Officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station Anisur Rahman said three workers of the mill -- Shahid Moral, 50, Nuruzzaman and Rasel -- locked into an altercation over a trifling matter around 2am while working at the factory.

At one stage, Nuruzzaman got angry and landed a punch on the chest of Shahid, leaving him injured severely, he said. Later, Shahid was taken to Abhaynagar Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.

240 houses brought under power network in Chandpur

CHANDPUR: A total of 240 houses of Noyadd village under Kachua upazila of the district have been brought under the rural electrification network by Chandpur Palli Biddyut Samity-1, reports BSS.

Local lawmaker Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir formally inaugurated the new connection line as the chief guest at a function held here on Friday afternoon.

Local leaders of Awami League including Abdur Rob Molla, M Babul Mojumder, Upazila Parishad Vice-chairman Advocate Heleluddin, Puro Mayor Nazmul Alam Sawpon, Deputy General Manager of Chandpur Palli Biddyut Samity-1 Jahangir Alam were present, among others, at the function. Chandpur Palli Biddyut Samity-1 implemented the programme at a cost of Tk 70 lakh, said DGM Jahangir Alam.

Training on income generating

GAIBANDHA: Training activities on different issues have been continuing at Sadar Upazila Parishad campus of the town for a month last, reports BSS.

Upazila Parishad is conducting the trainings under Upazila Governance and Development Project (UGDP) of Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives while Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing the fund.

Under the project designed for five years, a total of 12 transgenders (Hizras) are being imparted training on sewing at the campus of the Upazila Parishad with joint arrangement of upazila administration and upazila social services office, said upazila development facilitator of UGDP Most. Shabanab.

Apart from it, training on employment entrepreneurs development for youths are also going on at the management of Upazila Administration and Upazila Youth Development Office, she said.
