GAIBANDHA: Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah on Friday said huge development activities had been implemented in shoal areas in last eight years and a half during the tenure of the present government, reports BSS.
“The government has given much importance on improving the law and order situation at shoal areas to protect the lives and properties of the shoal inhabitants from the pirates,” he said.
The local lawmaker made the comments while addressing a big public meeting on law and order affairs and mass awareness creating on the ground of Chandanshwar High School under Fazlupur union of Fulchhari upazila on Friday afternoon as the chief
guest.
The meeting was held at the joint arrangement of three districts— Gaibandha, Kurigram and Jamalpur.
Lawmakers from Kurigram-4 constituency M Ruhul Amin and Jamalpur-2 constituency M Faridul Haque Khan, additional deputy inspector general (Rangpur Range) Chowdhury Manjurul Kabir and deputy commissioner (DC) of Jamalpur Ahmed Kabir were present at the event as special guests.
With DC of Gaibandha Gautam Chandra Pal in the chair, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by superintendent of police M Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, additional SP of Kurigram Menhazul Islam and Fulchhari upazila chairman Habibur Rahman.
Fazle Rabbi Miah also said the charshoal development board would be formed in near future and overall development activities of the chars and its people would be done under the board to change their socio-economic condition gradually.
Chowdhury Manjururl Kabir asked the shoal dwellers to be alert so that no militants could conduct training at the shoals and no pirates could commit piracy
there.
A large number of char people coming from different shoals of the upazila, political leaders, public representatives and journalists of print and electronic media attended the meeting.
