4 killed in road accidents

Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Bagerhat, Jessore and Tangail yesterday.

In Bagerhat: Two people, including a teenage girl, were killed and 10 other people injured as a bus hit a truck on Khulna-Mawa highway in Foltita Bazar of Fakirhat upazila of the district early yesterday, reports UNB.

The deceased were identified as Nasrin Akhter, 18, of Doiboggahati village and Monir Sheikh, 38, of Morelganj upazila.

M Azizul Haque, inspector of Katakhali highway police, said the accident took place when a bus of 'Banaful Paribahan' hit a jute-laden stationary truck, leaving 12 bus passengers injured. The two injured died on their way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Our Jessore correspondent reports: An unidentified youth was killed as a covered van rammed his bicycle on Jessore-Jhenidah road in Sadar upazila.

Police said the youth, aged about 18, was going toward Churamon Kathi area riding his bicycle when a covered van rammed it in front of Binodia gate of Jessore Cantonment on Jessore-Jhenidah road around 9:45am, leaving him critically injured.

Later locals rescued him and took him to the Jessore General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Our Tangail correspondent adds: A driver of a covered van was killed and three other people sustained injuries in a road accident at Sehratoil in Kalihati upazila yesterday morning.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be known.

Asabur Rahman, officer in charge of Kalihati police station, said a Northern region-bound speedy truck hit a covered van from behind around 7:00am, leaving the covered van driver dead on the spot and three others injured.
