Schoolboy stabbed to death
GOPALGANJ: A 13-year-old schoolboy was stabbed to death by his classmate in Kashiani upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The boy identified as Barkat Ullah Prince was a student of class VII at Ramdia SK High School of the upazila.
Police said Prince had an altercation with one of his classmates Shah Alom in classroom over a trivial matter.
Later, Shah Alom called Prince out of the classroom and stabbed him at playground of the school at about 10 am.
He was rushed to Gopalganj General Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Police could not arrest Shah Alom as he went into hiding soon after the killing.
Trader hacked dead in M’singh
Mymensingh: A mobile top-up trader was hacked to death by muggers at Kewatkhali in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Haripad, 45, a resident of the area.
Quamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on Haripad around 1am and hacked him indiscriminately while he was returning home from his shop at Methua Bazar, leaving him critically injured.
The muggers also took away the money he was carrying with him. Locals took the victim to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 3am, the OC added.
Police arrested two people suspecting their involvement with the murder.
Man held with migratory birds

Police arrested a man along with 10 foreign birds from Chachra check post area of Sadar upazila on Monday night.
The arrestee was identified as Abul, a resident of Durgapur village in Sharsha upazila.
Sub-inspector Syed Bayezid, in-charge of Chachra Police Outpost, said that on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Abul along with the birds around 7:00 pm.
Abu collected the birds from Dhaka for smuggling to India, said the SI. The birds were handed over to Kotwali Police Station.
Lightning kills two in Satkhira
Satkhira:Two men were killed by different lightning strike incidents at Tuardanga and Kadakati villages in Ashasuni upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Bhajhari Mandol, 50, son of late Mangal Mandol of Tuardanga village and Jahangir Hossain, 34, of Kadakati village of the upazila.
Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ashasuni Police Station, said a thunderbolt struck Bhajhari around 6:00 am while he was going outside for working, leaving him dead on the spot.
Meanwhile, another thunderbolt hit Jahangir Hossain while he was fishing in his enclosure, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, locals recovered the bodies, the OC added.
Couple held with heroin
JAMALPUR: Detective Branch of police in a drive arrested a couple in possession of heroin in Madarganj upazila of the district on Monday night, reports BSS.
The arrested identified as Md Bablu Miah, 33, and his wife Jui Begum, 28, are the residents of Gaber Gaon village of the upazila.
Acting on a tip off, a team of the DB police led by Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ziaul Islam raided Gaber Gaon village last night and arrested the couple with the abusive drug.
A case was registered with Madarganj police station.
