Bangladesh has been elected chairman of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission for South Asia, reports UNB. This was announced during the 22nd convention of the UNWTO, a specialized UN agency, at Chengtu, a sub-provincial city which has served as capital of China's Sichuan province. Hasan Mahmud, the Bangladesh ambassador to Spain, confirmed this to Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon over telephone on Monday, said a PID handout.
Rashed Khan Menon said it is a great achievement for the tourism industry and the achievement would encourage all involved with the industry to work relentlessly.
A five-member representative team, led by Hasan Mahmud, participated in the convention, which will continue till September 16.
