Housewife ‘gang raped’
Joypurhat: Three people, including two night guards of a bazaar, reportedly confessed before a court here on Sunday to gang raping a housewife after picking her up from Tilakpur Railway Station in Akkelpur upazila, reports UNB.
Joypurhat Judicial Magistrate Toufique Ahmed recorded the confessional statements of security guards Ismail Hossain, 48, and Abdur Razzak, 32, and tea stall worker Roni Ahmed, 25, said officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station Sirajul Islam.
The victim got down from a mail train at Tilakpur Railway Station on Friday night to go to her father’s house at Tilakpur from Natore. She was waiting at the platform for the dawn to venture outside.
However, the trio took the housewife to the toilet of Tilakpur Bazar Mosque where they violated her in turns.
The victim filed a case with Akkelpur Police Station on Saturday night over the incident and police arrested the accused soon after the filing of the case.
Lightning kills two farmers
MAGURA: Two farmers were killed and two others injured when a thunderbolt hit them at Nischintapur village in Sadar upazila here yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased are Waliar, 25, son of Sohrab Hossain and Sujon, 26, son of Sarwar Hossain, residents of the same area.
Police and hospital sources said the lightning followed by a rainstorm hit them at about 1 pm when they were working on a farmland of the village. They suffered critical injuries in the incident.
The wounded were sent to Magura Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Waliar and Sujon dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Ilias confirmed the incident.
Two held with cannabis, wine

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested two alleged illegal drug peddlers with 85 bottles of wine and 15-kg of cannabis in the district yesterday.
They were arrested in two separate drives conducted in Ramchandrapur Dihirmath area under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila and in Chamarmath area under Fatehpur village in Shibganj upazila of the district.
The arrested were Shree Bhulu Singha, 52, son of late Mahendra Singha of Tartipur village under Shibganj upazila and Md. Abdul Alim, 50, son of late Aftab Uddin Biswas of Nayalabhanga village under Shibganj upazila of the district.
Acting on secret information, an operation team of RAB-5 from Chapainawabganj camp raided a house in Ramchandrapur Dihirmath area around and arrested Bhulu Singha with 85 bottles of locally made wine.
In another drive, RAB raided a mango orchard in Fatehpur Chamarmath area and arrested Abdul Alim with 15-kg cannabis.
Later, they were handed over to the concerned police stations.
Teenage girl ‘commits suicide’

A teenage girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her room at Shahebganj village in Faridganj upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sonia Akter, 16, daughter of Md Abul Kalam of the village.
Md Mobarak Hossain, sub inspector of Faridganj Police Station told UNB that on
information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the hanging body of Sonia Akter around 7 pm and sent it to Chandpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Sonia might have committed suicide in a huff with her mother, SI added.
An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this connection.
Snake charmer dies from cobra bite in Magura
Magura: A snake charmer, who used to rear snakes at his house at Tupi Para village in Sreepur upazila, died from cobra bite on Sunday evening, reports UNB.
The deceased’s family members said Rashedul Biswas, 30, son of late Chhaken Biswas, reared snakes in his house for long.
He fell seriously sick after his snake bit him on Saturday morning.
He was taken to local shamans. He died on way to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday as his condition deteriorated.
