Speakers here recently underscored the need for political and social commitments to combat trafficking of illicit drugs along with its trading, reports BSS.
They said about 80 percent of drug addicts are between 15 and 30 age groups. So, there is no alternative to take measures against drug smuggling to free the country from the curse.
They made the observations while addressing a meeting held at Khulna Officers’ Club in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking- 2017.
District Administration and Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) jointly organised the programme discussing ways on how to free the city from the curse of abusive drugs.
The theme of the day is “Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.”
Additional Commissioner of Khulna division Md Faruk Hossain was the chief guest at the event with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADM) Noor-e-Alam in the chair.
The chief guest said forging social resistance has become indispensable to uproot the crime as it is being adjudged as a grave concern in the society.
He urged the community people to extend their wholehearted cooperation towards law enforcing agencies with authentic information about drugs traders and traffickers so that they could be brought to the book.
Additional Police Commissioner of KMP Mahbub Hakim, Commander of RAB-6 Khondokar Rafiqul Islam, Additional DIG of Khulna Range Habibur Rahman, Additional Police Super Md Shafiqullah, City and District Unit Commander of Muktijuddha Sangsad Sardar Mahbubur Rahman and Professor Alamgir Kabir addressed the event as special guests.
Additional Director of DNC Md Abul Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
While presenting keynote paper, he said rising of crimes and health hazards are the major consequences of using abusive drugs.
He said the law enforcing agencies alone is not capable to combat the social menace, but community participation coupled with family and social contribution is very important to end the ill practice.
”It was very alarming that at present drug addiction had become widespread irrespective of educated and illiterate, rich and poor, teachers and students,” he said.
