EC dialogue with 2 Islamist parties today

The Election Commission (EC) will sit in separate talks with two Islamist parties --Bangladesh Islami Front and Islami Andolan Bangladesh- today as part of its ongoing dialogues with registered political parties, reports UNB. "The talks with Bangladesh Islami Front will start at 11am, while that with Islami Andolan Bangladesh at 3pm," said EC additional secretary Mukhlesur Rahman yesterday.

The two separate meetings will be held at ‘Nirbachan Bhaban’ in the city, with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair, he said.

The Election Commission initiated its dialogue with 40 registered political parties on August 24 to take their opinions over its preparation for the next national election.

The EC invited the parties from bottom of the list in line with the sequence of registration. The commission is holding talks with two parties each day and 10 representatives of each party are being invited to join the dialogue, he added.

On the first day ( August 24), the EC held talks with Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) and Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijote, on August 28 with Bangladesh Muslim League (BML) and Khelafat Majlish, and on August 30 with Bangladesh Biplobi Workers Party and Jatiya Gonatantrik Party.

The EC is set to hold talks with Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and Islami Oikya Jote on September 12. On September 14, the EC talks will be held with Kalyan Party and Islamic Front Bangladesh.
