Nazmul Hassan Papon, president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Friday hinted that they could bring a couple of changes in the squad of the Bangladesh’s upcoming tour against the top-flight South Africa.

A full-fledged series against the African side is scheduled to take place in between September and October. Bangladesh are expected to take off for South Africa to play the series on September 16.

The series against the Proteas will be comprised of two Tests as many as two Twenty20 Internationals coupled with three-match one-day international series.

“The left-handed combination we had against the Australia that suffered much for us especially in the second Test. We had a golden opportunity ahead to win the Test series against the high-ranked Australian series,” said Nazmul Hassan at his residence in the capital yesterday.

“By outstanding performance we had earlier won the last Test against England and Sri Lanka to level the series after we lost the first Test. But this time we had won the first Test and had made a golden opportunity to win the Test series,” Papon told media.

“We want to break this combination and inject one or two right-handed batsman in the top-order so that none can take the chance any more what Nathan Lyon took from us,” he added.

The team management will soon announce Bangladesh squad for the forthcoming tour in South Africa. And so, they will sit for a meeting to discuss all the important matter of the tour.

Considering the home condition in mind, Bangladesh played against the top-notch Australia with two specialist spinners- Taijul Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraj-  besides ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan along with Nasir Hossain.

But this time the deck and weather condition for them will totally be different in South Africa. So they will give their focus more on pace bowlers instead of spin bowlers. In that sense, the number of spinners could be reduced.

Along with that, Bangladesh have four batsmen in top-order at this moment, whom of them all were left-handers such as Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque. And so, the team management seeks to bring change in their top-order line-up.   The BCB president also said that they want to give more chances to potent young players so that they could be got more international exposure and make their habituation with the different wickets and conditions.

“We’ve seen heavy outcry from all the fronts when we made a change in the team. But we have done no big change in the squad when we play at home turf as we seek to win all the matches whoever the team is,” Nazmul viewed.

“But from now we will give chance to potential young what we have in the line-up in every away tour. We’ve to do that to sideline our senior player or players. But that’s not meant that the dropped player or players will be sidelined for ever,” he thought.

Citing the name of Sri Lanka Cricket Team, Papon said that what situation the team is passing after the retirement of the Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardane despite having potential.

And so, he said that they will try their best or everything so they have to face not such situation after the retirement of their key players-Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad.

Papon also said that they will play 30 more matches before the next 50-over World Cup. By their talented guys they have in their disposal they will try in those matches so that they could reach at their destination riding on them.

“Actually we have a target in the 2019 World Cup. We want to produce more matured players for it,” he said, adding:  “Some of our key players will go in retirement after that showpiece event. The youngster could be filled their shoes.”

Nazmul Hassan to make the postmortem of the just concluded Test series against Australia said that they missed the chance of winning the Test series because of the batting frailty of the top-order batsmen. Apart from that he also blamed the shoddy fielding of the players. But he gives credit to Australian most experienced spinner Nathan Lyon, who unsettled our batsmen with his shrewd deliveries.
