Don’t do politics over Rohingya issue

Alleging that BNP is engaged in doing politics over the Rohingya issue, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday urged it to refrain from such ‘dirty game’, reports UNB from Munshiganj. He made the call while talking to reporters after visiting an under-construction bridge on the Chatiyantali-Malibagan road at Paschim Kusumpur of Sirajdikhan upazila.

Referring to the remarks of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir criticising the government over its handling of the Rohingya crisis, Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, urged him not to make it a political issue.

He also termed the influx of Rohingya towards Bangladesh a ‘human catastrophe’ and likened the atrocities unleashed on the Myanmar nationals by its military forces to genocide.

Although Bangladesh has limited resources to take a huge number of refugees, it is treating the Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds providing them with food and medicines, the ruling party leader said. He also said the Bangladesh government is working to draw UN’s attention to the crisis.

Quader said the government remains alert so that the drugs, arms and militants cannot enter Bangladesh with the Rohingya refugees.
