Newspaper employees and press workers yesterday decided to postpone their grand rally to demand salaries as per the 9th wage board from September 10 to October 11. The rally, scheduled to be held in front of the National Press Club to drum up support for the 10-point demands, will be jointly hosted by the Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Karmachari Federation and Bangladesh Newspaper Press Workers.
The decision to postpone the rally was taken at a joint preparatory meeting of the two organisations at the BSS union office. The meeting was presided over by the president of the Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Karmachari Federation, Mohammad Matiur Rahman Talukder, and conducted by Mohammad Alamgir Hossain Khan, president of the Bangladesh Newspaper Press Workers.
They urged all members of the Sramik Karmachari Unions to attend the rally. The leaders agreed to take all necessary steps to make the October 11 grand rally a success, said a press release by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers and the Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Karmachari Federation.
The joint preparatory meeting was attended by the leaders of Dainik Janata, Dainik Ittefaq, BSS, Dainik Tathyadhara, Dainik Sangram, Dainik Sangbad, Dainik Alokito Bangladesh, The Daily Star, The Daily New Nation, The Daily Sun and The Daily Independent.
