6-day int’l workshop on documentary techniques begins

A six-day long international workshop titled ‘Technique of making documentaries and market of joint-venture films’ has begun at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital on Friday, reports UNB. Dhaka Independent Film Network (DIFN) in association with Bengal Foundation, Cosmos Foundation and Oriental Services Limited organised the workshop to create a platform for the young filmmakers to learn techniques of writing, and documentary work from famous producers.

PM’s Principal Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury inaugurated the workshop yesterday while a documentary, ‘Are You listening?’, directed by Kamar Ahmad Shyman was screened after the inaugural ceremony.

Kim Dong Won-directed two documentaries titled ‘Repatriation’ and ‘My friend Jung II Woo’ will be screened at 6pm today and tomorrow respectively at the Academy’s Art Plaza Auditorium with a ‘question and answer’ session.

Short films ‘Woman and the Glacier’ by Audrius Stonys, ‘69 Minutes of 86 days’ by Egil Haskjold Larsen and ‘Normal Autistic’ by Miroslav Janek will be screened on September 11,12 and 13 respectively.

Six documentary producers from Bangladesh and seven from India are participating in discussion sessions of the workshop.

Korean National University teacher Kim Dong will deliver a lecture tomorrow on the master class on documentary-making at the National Art Gallery auditorium while a special session by Jean Paul F Pauwels ‘International Co-production and pitching’ will be held at the seminar room of the Jatiya Nattyashala on September 11.  

 Among others, Danish filmmaker Caroline Lidin, Nilotpal Majumdar of India, Audius Stones of the United States, Director of European Documentary Network Paul Douglas, Director of the Pope Films of Portugal and Producer Garga Castanehira and Japan’s Ryota Kontani will be present at different sessions of the workshop.

The closing ceremony will be held on September 13 with the announcement of awards in various categories.
