The nation will observe the 41st death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam today. Born into a Bengali Muslim Kazi family, he produced a large body of poetry and music with themes that included religious devotion and spiritual rebellion against fascism and oppression. His activism for political and social justice earned him the title of the ‘Rebel Poet’.
Different socio cultural and other organizations has chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the occasion, while televisions will air special programmes on his works and life. The programmes will start with Qurankhwani after Fajr prayers at Dhaka University (DU) central mosque by different organizations.
Nazrul Academy has arranged three-day programmes featuring discussion, musical event, campaigning for Nazrul’s works to the mass people and prayer programme, which began on August 25 and ended with offering prayer at the poet’s grave today.
Marking the death anniversary of the National Poet, Nazrul Institute has organised an elaborate programme featuring commemorative discussions, award giving ceremony and cultural event today. Attending the programme as chief guest, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will hand over the Nazrul Award 2016 conferred by Nazrul Institute. Presided over by Nazrul Institute Trustee Board Chairman Professor Rafiqul Islam, Cultural Affairs Secretary Ibrahim Hossain and IFIC Bank Managing Director Shah Alam Sarwar will be present as the special guests at the event.
The programme will be held at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum at 6:30pm. Nazrul Sangeet exponent Fatema Tuz Zohra, Ferdous Ara and Leena Taposhi Khan will be honoured with the prestigious ‘Nazrul Award 2016’ for their outstanding contributions to the respective fields.
In the cultural part, singer Mohidul Islam, Bodrunnesa Dalia, Sharmin Sathi Islam and others will render Nazrul Sangeet while Jayanta Chattopadhyay will recite poems.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has also organised an elaborate programme to mark the day. The programme will begin in the morning by placing wreaths at the graveyard of the Rebel Poet today, while cultural event featuring discussion, dance, music will be held on Tuesday at the Sangeet and Dance auditorium of BSA.
Bangla Academy will organise a lecture session followed by a cultural show at its Poet Shamsur Rahman auditorium at 4pm today.
Cultural organisation Chhayanaut organised an array of programmes featuring dance, songs and discussion at its auditorium at 7pm yesterday.
Paying tribute to the National Poet, various types of programmes will be broadcast on the small screen today.
To observe Kazi Nazrul’s death anniversary, Channel i will air a set of programmes throughout entire the day. A special episode of talk show titled ‘Tritiyo Matra’, attended by Ferdous Ara and hosted by Faridur Reza Sagor, will be aired at 9:45am, while a special tele-drama titled ‘Reshmi Churi’ based on a poem of Kazi Nazrul Islam will be aired at 7:50pm.
NTV will air a special programme ‘Nazruler Chithi’ will be aired at 6:45pm where Aly Zaker, Pijush Bandyopadhyay, Shimul Mustapha, Chitrolekha Guho, Munira Yusuf Memy will read out the letter of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Besides, a special tele-drama titled ‘Dhumketu’ directed by Tuhin Hossain will be aired at 9:05pm. Inspired by Nazrul song ‘Amay Nohe Go, Bhalobaso Mor Gaan’, Sarwar Reza Jimi has dramataised the drama. Afran Nisho, Tanveen Sweety, Dilara Zaman and others have acted in the drama.
