Bullet-hit Rohingya man dies at CMCH

One of the two Rohingyas, shot during Friday's attacks on security forces in Myanmar and admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with bullet injuries, died yesterday. On Saturday morning, two Rohingyas with bullet wounds were admitted to the CMCH after they sneaked into Bangladesh from across the Bangladesh-Myanmar boarder in the Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Musa, 22, son of Ismail, a resident of the Maungdaw area in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.

The other, identified as Md Mokter, 27, son of Gul Mohammad Sheikh, also of Maungdaw in the Rakhine State, was undergoing treatment at the CMCH. Doctors said he was out of danger.

“At around 8am, two bullet-injured Rohingya men were admitted to the CMCH. They were brought by their relatives. At around 9:30am, Mohammad Musa died,” said Shilobrata Barua, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the CMCH police outpost.

“They were shot during an attack on a police outpost at Maungdaw on Friday night. That very night, they managed to cross the border and got admitted to the CMCH on Saturday morning,” said Ala Uddin Talukder, ASI of the CMCH police outpost.

The Myanmar government does not acknowledge Rohingyas the country’s citizens, describing them as immigrants from Bangladesh. They minority Rohingyas are facing persecution for many years in Myanmar. At least 500,000 are living in Cox’s Bazar, in Bangladesh, after fleeing their home.
