Five policemen closed for negligence in duties

Chuadanga: Five police personnel of Sadar Police Station were closed to Chuadanga Police Lines on Sunday for negligence in their duties over an incident of theft at Samabay Market in front of deputy commissioner’s office, reports UNB.

Nizam Uddin, superintendent of district police, made the order in this regard. The closed policemen are sub-inspector Akram Hossain, constables Nabirul Islam, Sajidur Rahman, Jasim Uddin and Rezaul Hossain.

The SP also gave three-day ultimatum to officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Tozammel Haque, inspector (investigation) Golam Mohammad, and inspector (operation) Ameer Abbas to recover the stolen valuables and arrest the persons involved. Otherwise, legal action must be taken against them, the SP warned.

Breaking locks of some shops in the market, the thieves stole a computer monitor and some cash money on Friday night.

Nineteen jailed for trading drug

COX'S  BAZAR: A court here sentenced 19 people to 10 years of imprisonment for smuggling yaba, reports BSS.

Additional District and Sessions Judge M Osman Gani handed down the verdict in presence of all the convicts.

The convicts are Shamsul Alam alias Kalu, 32, Jahed Hossain, 18, Asiullah,

27, Ayub Ali, 31, Azizul Haque, 26, Makbul Ahamed, 18, Rafik Alam, 21, Khairul Amin, 36, Fajal Karim, 25, M Ilias, 21, M Abdullah, 18, Jahangir Alam, 32, Ziaur Rahman, 18, Anwar Hossain, 23, M Rubel, 22, Rasedul Haque,

31, Nurul Alam, 25, M Rubel, 23, and Imam alias Nabi Hossain, 30. All are the residents of Teknaf upazila.

According to the prosecution, Members of Coast Guard arrested them with 4 lakh of yaba tablets from the Bay of Bengal on February 25, last year.

On the next day, Coast Guard filed a case against them with Teknaf police station.

Youth hacked to death

Natore: A young man was hacked to death allegedly by his friend over a trifling matter at Gurudaspur in the district town on Sunday night, reports UNB.

The deceased, Ashiq, 25, was a resident of Chanchkoir area in the upazila.

Quoting locals, police said Ashiq had a dispute with friend over distribution of money earned through drug business around 10:00 pm.

Oli called his friend Ashiq to pay his share of money at night and hacked him mercilessly with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued Ashiq and took him to Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

34 sued over expatriate murder

Brahmanbaria: A case was filed against 34 people, making Talshahar Union Parishad Chairman as the prime accused, over murder of a Malaysia expatriate in Austogram of Sadar upazila, reports UNB.

Deceased’s mother Habiba Begum filed the case with Sadar Police Station.

According to case statement, there was a quarrel between the families of Talshahar (east) union parishad chairman Enamul Haque Osman and Omar of the village over a trifling matter. Following the dispute, the family members of Osman allegedly beat Obaidullah mercilessly on his way to a tea stall on Friday, leaving him dead on the spot.

Md Nobir Hossian, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said two accused have already been arrested. Operation is going on to arrest the others.

‘Hundi trader’ held at Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged hundi trader with Tk 4 lakh in Putkhali border area under Benapole Port police station on Sunday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Raihan Ali, 15, a resident of Putkhali Uttarpara village of the area.

Lieutenant Colonel Tariqul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB-21 battalion, said on secrete information a team of BGB Putkhali camp raided Putkhali Mazid Bari area and arrested Raihan Ali and seized a bicycle from his possession around 3:30 pm.

After searching his body, BGB men recovered Tk 4 lakh.

Later, Raihan was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. The seized hundy money was deposited to Benapole customs, the BGB official added.

A case was filed with the police station in this connection.

Couple electrocuted in Tangail

Tangail: A man and his wife died from electrocution in Alsha village in Delduar upazila on Sunday evening, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Nowaz Ali Miah, 50, and his wife Nazma Begum, 40, of the village.

Abu Taher Talukdar, chairman of Delduar Sadar union parishad, said Nowaz and his wife came in contact with a snapped electric wire when they went to Ashla Beel by a small boat to collect water Lily, leaving them dead on the spot. Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge Delduar Police Station, said police visited the spot.

Educational materials distributed

Different educational materials including English dictionaries, grammar books were distributed among the students of various primary schools in Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday.

Sadar upazila parishad arranged a simple function on the occasion on Model Government Primary School premises in the town with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Iftekhar Uddin Shamim in the chair.

Chapainawabganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Mahmudul Hasan attended the function as the chief guest.

Acting upazila chairman Mohsin Ali, district primary education officer Abdul Kader and acting upazila primary education officer Tashem Uddin also spoke, among others.
